You Can Choose To Hear Or Not

by Odon Bulamba (summary only -4th Feb, 2005)

I Samuel 22:6

When Saul heard that David was there something happened. To hear is very important and also very dangerous because it can destroy your soul, you mind and your peace. God gave us ears to hear but our brain also tries to understand what we heard and then there is a decision on what to do with that information. To hear is simple and it doesn’t cost money but it’s up to you to choose what to hear and what not to hear. For example, if someone gossips to you, what will your reaction be (especially if that person has gossip about you). Your ears receive the message and it goes straight to the brain and then to your heart and once in the heart, something will change inside and you will feel bad and your joy will leave you, you might even hate the person and satan will come to show you how bad that person is and when you meet that person you will react in a bad way. All of this, just because of something that you heard.

When we hear the Word of God it doesn’t penetrate the ear or accept the brain to receive it and after that it disappears, but when someone has stories to destroy the glory of God, we hear that.

What we hear can bring joy or destroy our bodies morally, physically and mentally so we have to be careful with what we accept to hear. Don’t let information go straight from your ear to your brain, ask yourself first if you have room for that because if it goes to your heart it will cause you to sin. Listen to what is important for us and leave the rest and don’t believe someone just because you are close to them, weigh it up first. If someone gives you information, ask them for a solution also, ‘what would you advise me to do’.

After hearing information, if we accept it to go into the brain we have to meditate on it, ‘why did that person tell me that? What was the purpose? Was is because of love or because of hate?’ Don’t react without asking yourself why and if something was wrong, pray for that person and talk to them.

I Samuel 21:13, he had to change his behavior and we also need to know how to change. Many people say, ‘this is my nature, anger is part of my life’ but were they born angry? We have to ask God to help us to have a good behavior, one that will reflect God’s life in us.

When Jesus told Judas Iscariot that one of you will betray me, Judas was offended instead of thanking God for revealing it to him. How many times do you become angry when people tell you something even though your conscience tells you they are correct? Many people are arrogant and whatever you tell them they say, ‘I don’t care’ but if they don’t care about their own lives, whose life will they care about?

Gal 2:20, if Christ lives in you then you must pray for your enemies and love them. Love your enemy as your own soul but usually when we see our enemy we want to avoid them.

If you have a problem with someone sort it out with that person and don’t tell anyone your problem (even your husband) because that will make more people to have a problem with that person. The biggest mistake of Christians is misunderstanding once you understand something it is not easy to make a mistake.

Often when the enemy tries to reconcile with us, we now believe we have the highest position and think it is now time to make that person suffer. Our enemies must become our friends today, don’t think about the past, just forgive and forget. The Bible says we have to forgive 7 x 7 times (490x) and we can never use that up because this is new every day and nobody sins against us 490x a day. Us as Christians sin so much everyday but God continues to forgive us. Mark 11:25, don’t wait for someone to say sorry to you but forgive them first and when you forgive it is like an eraser rubbing out pencil, you can’t see it any more. But if you keep it in your heart and it can’t be rubbed out because it is like pen and not pencil then use twink to cover it.
