Lot

Luke 17:26-30

The Bible continues to remind us that whenever 2 or 3 gather together, Christ is among them.

Today I’m going to talk to you about Lot.  Lot means “veil”: what you cover your face with.  You can see through it and see faces but people may not see your face.  Lot was the nephew of Abraham. 

Luke 17:28 will be the main verse for today.  In the days of Lot people were eating, drinking, buying and building.

Last Sunday, we talked about the time of Noah where people were eating, drinking, marrying and giving their sons and daughters to marry.  Jesus has been telling us that this is a reminder, “When you start to see these signs, remember I am coming back”.  When you observe these things, it is an alarm, wake up.  As I said last Sunday, to eat is not a sin and to drink is not a sin and to marry or give your daughter to marry is not a sin but God was angry to the point that He destroyed the people of Noah for those mistakes.

Why was God not angry with those who were killing, or those doing prostitution, or liars.  Why not all the sins that we know?  He continues to say that at the time of Lot people were eating, drinking, selling, buying, planting and building.  Many people will tell you that Jesus is coming back soon, we can look at all the signs.  Are you ready to go?  We believe that what the Bible calls sins and that is the only thing that can stop us from pleasing God.

However, in the beginning Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden.  God told them live here but the first warning to human beings was to not eat the fruit from this tree, “By eating you will shock Me Your God and I will become unhappy with you.  You can eat everything else but not this one”.  If to eat is not a problem, why did God tell Adam not to eat the fruit of that tree?  We only know that eating in excess is sin.  Whenever you envy food or desire it more than God, God becomes jealous and unhappy.

For example, I watched children one time when we bought fish and chips, around 2003.  All our kids were there.  It was time to pray for the food and Lebon prayed as quickly as possible in order to attack his food.  I was maybe the same when I was a child.  I knew food wouldn’t run away from table but I would rush.  When I cook it might take 2 or 3 hours to prepare the food and I do that job with strength and courage.  I want that food to taste good.  Onions and tomatoes make it smell good and when I taste it, I think oh yes, this is going to be good.

As I cook it’s not only for me but for those that will share with me.  Many will come and taste it and say, its yummy, we appreciate it.  They eat with appetite and enjoy.  Although you spent hours in the kitchen, it will only take a few minutes to eat.  Then sometimes people leave some food on the plate.  You wonder how you can spend so much time to cook when they don’t even eat it.  That is where our teaching is today.

What are we investing in today for our spiritual meals for our family, friends and colleagues?  We are distracted with restaurants.  They have big signs, cook food, have a menu and when we look at the menu and we don’t know what kind of food is there.  I accept to spend money in order to try this and you buy it.  How often do people visit you and they see something in you to attract them to try your food?  The Word of God is food.  When you talk about a verse from the Bible or experience what God has done for you it is like a menu for others to look at. 

If I start from January to now (December), God has done a lot for me.  Free oxygen, health, protection, I can walk, talk and God has responded to all my needs.  In the same way God gave all the fruit to Adam and Eve but one exception to not eat this fruit.  Today our exception is to remember what we shouldn’t eat.  Does food in the first rank or last rank in your life?  Do you love food more than your soul, God, yourself?

I might love sausages more than God, or I might love cookies more than Jesus.  When I see pizza, I see myself in heaven.  Your soul, what does it say?  When you eat food you enjoy, how much do you feed your soul and with what do you feed it?  Very often, we feed from the food that we shouldn’t just as Adam and Eve ate from the “food of knowledge of good and evil”.

To drink is ok and the Bible doesn’t say alcohol, it could be water, juice just remember that whenever your drink holds highest rank in your life, God becomes jealous.  God doesn’t hide it, He says, “I am jealous.  I love you so much that I feel jealous whenever I see your love is put in something else”.  E.g. a husband that loves his wife who loves someone/something else instead that husband won’t be happy, he will be jealous.  God is the one who gives us thirst and the One who created the drink to quench it but we adore the drink more than God and put it in the first rank.

The verse says that the people in the time of Lot were buying and selling.  Why am I wearing this suit while it is a hot day?  One day I was walking in china and I saw this suit.  They put it on a mannequin and I thought, wow it looked good with all the colours.  I must buy it because it looks beautiful.  My heart was pumping, “you have to have it because if you don’t, you have nothing” while I have many at home.  Why do I need it?  The desire of my body was pushing me to buy it.

When I wear what I am wearing now, I cannot look at myself but it is just to impress others = pride.  Then, I approached the owner of the shop, how much for this suit?  I love this brand Giorgio Armani, and I knew it would be thousands.  Owner said, $200 and I bargained down to $25.  Now I have this suit, what is next, I have to wear it.  Who gave me the health to wear it?  Today God could make me sick and I can never wear it. 

I can easily spend $25 to buy this jacket but it is impossible to give $25 offering in church.  I can spend money to buy shoes but hard to give to the poor.  Pastors, prophets, men and women of God are all putting our eyes on buying now.  On Sunday I have to wear this to look more beautiful than others.  A matter of competition in church now so we buy not for the glory of God.

We have to think about what we will wear to work in order to be appreciated.  If you don’t get told, “nice blouse”, how will you feel?  Many will feel bad.  We need glory and God who deserves glory is becoming more and more jealous.  Why do you want to take my glory because of what you wear?  If you do a small task in the church, you want people to notice and appreciate it.  Saying thank you is not bad but once received, do I also present the thanks to God and say because of You, I did this.

Sometimes I do the dishes and people thank me and I also thank God for giving me the hands to do it.  Those who serve and don’t do things for glory will be raised up by God.

Pastors write books and you have to buy it.  CD’s, you have to buy.  In order to join conferences, you have to pay.  We are selling business in church.  Business in church is greater than supermarket businesses around New Zealand.  If you buy this, this person will be able to do this.  We are doing fundraising.  People are supposed to give and give and give.

Today, we can see these signs inside the church.  We buy and sell.  We want to become rich and very rich quickly which to us is to earn a lot of money.  Recently, I watched tv about the bitcoin.  8 years ago, someone rung me about the bitcoins and I mocked the person over the phone.  Those who received them, are now millionaires.  This is like a dream, I was proposed to do this and I thought it was a scam but it has made others millionaires. 

Because I didn’t have the lust of money, I put it aside.  If I could give that money away and have millions today, maybe I wouldn’t be here today in church but instead I would be running after money.  I would put my Bible aside, God give me wisdom to know how to manage my money, to know how to get more interest.  After getting more money, I will kneel down and praise God.

Will I give 10% for tithing?  If I earned $30M, how will I give $3M?  It’s a lot.  I sacrificed my money, my time, and the time I had with my children, you don’t need $3M God.  God will take it away.  Take that jacket off, and it will be taken away.  Take your tie off and it will be given away.

My computer crashed, my interest is gone, my $30M has dropped to $2M.  You lose your password with Bitcoin and someone steals your money.  God will take your income.  God will tell you is that you are only building your finances.  Building money is priority number of 1.  I will accept to wear jacket of problems in the middle of summer to earn money instead of trying to earn God’s love.

God says I am here and we say, I don’t have time for you, God can you wait until next week.  I just want to live longer to be able to enjoy what I have earned.  Those who sell know how to attract you. Sellers don’t know you but they will put things in the store so your eyes will say, this is what I want.  They take money from you.  What do you buy from your God?

When you open your Bible, there are a lot of things that attract you from your Bible, what do you buy?  Those in Laodicea were told to come and buy what I can put in your eyes so you can see.  What do you buy?  What do you sell?  For those who want to buy from God, what attracts people to you?  What attracts you from the Word of God?  What did you go through in 2017? 

In the end at the time of Lot, the angels came and said, it’s time to leave.  Lot was living in Sodom and Gomorrah.  People couldn’t know who was lot because his faith was hidden behind the veil.  You have to leave now, no time to pack.  Whatever you have, the food that you used to love, your drink, what you sold and bought will stay behind and only those that will come with you will come.

We are living at the end of the time when the master will come and ask you to leave this world.  When he comes, he doesn’t have to ring the bell to let you know he is on his way.  What are you taking with you?  Your nice jacket, tie, shoes, your good/bad actions, your food you love?  What will you present to God?

Those signs are a wake up call for us.  If I am a veil, my role shouldn’t be to cover the faces of others so they can’t be seen but we should be a light of the world.  We shouldn’t cover the hs in me so he can’t act and hide the fruit in me.  our role is not to hide that we are saved.  One brother who did a mistake was moses.  He came down from mountain and he was shining so he thought the solution was to have a veil so people couldn’t see it.  He lost that light and it disappeared.

When God gives you something, let others see it, don’t hide it so you can be the light for those in darkness.  If you put a veil to hide what God has given you as gifts then you will make many to die and they will vanish.  You may be beautiful and it attracts people.  In 2005, I saw a very beautiful girl in Uni of Waikato and all people would look when she passed and make comment.  God knows how to create people and who to give the beauty.  The girl didn’t care about her beauty but it attracted men and women.  You have many things in your life that attract others, what do you do with them.

Your eyes, hands, voice can all attract others but how do you use them to attract them for the glory of God and not for your own glory.

A man was given $40, as your birthday is coming take your friends out and enjoy.  $40 is not enough, and the young man was only 11 years old.  Mum, please can I have more.  $100 all up was given.  He called a few boys and they went to BK.  Money wsa still there and boys ate and they were happy and they had icecream and enjoyed.  6 boys came back home.  BK was so good, we ate, drank, we played and everyone thanked the child but no one thanked the one who gave the money.  The child took all the glory.

Imagine God, when you take glory he will say, hang on, I am here too.  When pete finishes work in a good way.  God waits for the glory to be passed on to him.  We have to tell those people, thank you to you too and I thank God also.  When we forget, God becomes jelaous and because of that, God burned the entire city.  Children and animals, plants were innocent but all were consumed by God’s fire because of jealousy.

If I give you the entire world, what will you gain if you lose your soul.  I am jealous of your soul.  Nothing equals your soul.  God is jealous about your soul and he wants it.  You can feed yourself and wear what you want but you have to remember to feed your soul and clothe it.  Most of our souls walk around with shame and heads down, naked and malnourished – no one takes care of me while our physical bodies are enjoying.

We have to build, buy and sell but we need to do the same for our souls.  If you don’t invest in your soul, no one will do it for you.  You have to make an effort to prepare yourself.  We thank God for 2017, we will never see it again.  Where we made mistakes or didn’t please God, this is the time to ask God to forgive us, to get strength to do better.  We don’t know what we will face in 2018.  We may ask God for protection, help, support and pray for others because we don’t know the surprises of 2018.

I once bought a house for my mum of around $900K, I was rich at that time but the following day it rained and the house was at the top of the mountain and the beautiful house eroded down the mountain.  It was completely destroyed.  Our country didn’t have insurance.  That was my xmas surprise.  You don’t know what 2018 will bring you.  You might be breathing now but in 2 mins the ambulance may be called for you.

Pray God to protect you and your family and to settle all your problems in 2017 to start 2018 with joy

Intercessory Prayer - Abraham & Lot

This is a short message of encouragement for us as we come this morning to fast and pray for the servants of God using the story of Abraham and Lot to help us be ready to pray.

When God decided to destroy Sodom and Gomorah, He decided to pass by Abraham first. He didn’t have to, He could have destroyed the city first but it was His will to involve Abraham. God wants to use us today to pray for these servants of God. God wanted to use Abraham to lead Lot out of that city and that is what we are doing today...we are going to be used by God to lead these servants of God from one place to another. Some might already be in the right place and we will praise God for that and we will pray they will continue to be in the right place. For those that are not in God’s will...we might have to be like Abraham who had to push Lot to get out. We might have to use our prayers to push these people to move.

Lot wasn’t even someone special but God wanted to save him because of Abraham’s prayers. Because of our prayers today, God will save these servants (either from moving in the wrong direction or from staying in the wrong place).

Once Lot started moving, he was told not to look back and we know the consequence of his wife who looked back. We need these servants to keep focused on Jesus and not to look at what was in the past or what is going on around them.

It was God’s will for Lot to be in that city at that time so His glory could be seen.  We might look at some of our people and think they are not in the right place but we need to know God’s will. Eve took the fruit because God wanted it to happen that way, He knew she would and that was His plan. Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus because it was God’s will. It might be God’s will for our brother to be separated from us, or for servants to be going places we think they shouldn’t, so we need to pray for God’s will to be accomplished and while these people are there, pray God will protect them from sin.

Which Righteous Man Do You Want To Be?

Gen24:1 Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.

Gen 12:7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

The Bible says that Abraham was righteous but did you know that his nephew Lot was righteous too? (2Peter 2:7-8). Yet both men lived very different lives. They both lived under God’s grace some 400 years before the law was given; Abraham was very blessed, whereas Lot lost a lot! Lot had no heart for God.

Both men had large herds and flocks. When their herdsmen started arguing over space, Abraham took the initiative to make peace. He even let Lot pick the lands that he wanted. Both men were righteous, but one was more gracious than the other.

Lot’s life
Lot picked the well-watered plain of Jordan, where the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were. He dwelt there and pitched his tent as far as Sodom. Eventually he lived in Sodom. Now Sodom and Gomorrah in the Bible represent a sinful lifestyle. So Christians think, “Since I am righteous by faith and under God’s grace, I can live a sinful lifestyle.”

Well let’s learn from Lot. He first saw Sodom, then his feet walked toward it and finally he went into it. Someone once said: “Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay and cost you more than you want to pay.” What did Lot end up paying?

He was captured when four kings plundered Sodom and Gomorrah. And even when Abraham rescued Lot with the help of God, he did not learn his lesson. He went back to Sodom. Some Christians live from one bail out to another. God delivers them from say debt, and they go right back to borrowing money or gambling! Sodom and Gomorrah were eventually destroyed. Lot escaped with only the clothes on his back and even lost his wife in the process.

Is this the kind of Christian life we want, being saved by the skin of our teeth? Or do we want an intimate relationship with our Saviour just like Abraham did?

Abraham’s Life
We all know that Abraham was righteous by faith; he had a close walk with God and was blessed by God in all things. From place to place Abraham would build an altar to the Lord. And in between altars, he grew very rich! (Gen 13:2) There is no biblical record, however, of Lot ever building an altar to the Lord.

What’s an altar in todays context? It could be a place where you know that you have a close relationship with God. A place of worship before God, a place where you cast all your cares upon the Lord, it‘s a place in your heart that is intimate, that is between you and God. It can be when we come together on a Wednesday to worship together, we get close to God.

We have got to have this kind of relationship with God, one full of altars that remind us of His love, goodness and faithfulness. Do you want to be a Christian like Lot, righteous but always finding yourself in trouble, or do you want to be a righteous and blessed Christian like Abraham? Let’s not live the Christian life like Lot, saved by the skin of our teeth. Let’s walk closely with God as Abraham did, and be richly blessed in every area of our lives! Then, like Abraham, have a heart for God.

We are the righteousness of God in Christ. When we truly understand what Jesus did to make us the righteousness of God, it will cause us to fall out of love with sin and fall in love with God. Then, it will not be hard to have a heart for God, like Abraham did, and like Abraham, be blessed in all things!

The Wife of a Servant of God (Part III)

When Lot’s wife was turned into salt, Lot carried on with his two daughters, and because salvation is personal Lot didn’t look to see where his wife was neither did the daughters and they all continued forward and arrived somewhere.

Later on the daughters got their father drunk in order to sleep with their own father. It is written in Leviticus that to sleep with your father is forbidden. The oldest daughter influenced the youngest one and this is always the way with women who are wives of servants of God. You! Who are adults, why do you influence the younger ones to sin? You know that this is a sin, but you say Hayley go and do that and this, this is a short cut if we pray for five years we are just wasting our time, just take the short cut. Maybe Ange will say, oh Zoe don’t do it that way do it another way. To the extent that the oldest Christian used the youngest one to spy on other Christians, first they are friends and then your job is to go and check to see where Michael went and you are to come back and give me a report, and you will go and do this. Just because of curiosity, because I want to know what is going on around me, I will start controlling the physical life of everybody instead of looking at their spiritual side in order to help them. And when you’ll have your report, you’ll judge the people involved. Who are you to judge God’s servants, who gave you this authority? This is exactly where curiosity leads.

So Lot’s daughters misled their father, they got him drunk and then they did what they wanted. You, who are wives of servants of God or maybe you will be one tomorrow, never get your husbands drunk with your nice words, don’t mislead your husband with flattery because they might fall and sin. There are examples in the Bible; Jesus’ mother Mary, the Bible says that Mary was pregnant, although Mary was pregnant she always submitted to Joseph. Mary was carrying God in her stomach, but she was not proud, she was very gentle, she fully obeyed Joseph even though Joseph was just a carpenter. She didn’t say, God visited me and who are you! She was submitted and when Joseph said we are going left she would go left. The Bible doesn’t say that they discussed because Joseph also had a mission for Mary’s life.

But today what can we see with the wives of servant’s of God. You will see instead of the husband deciding, the wife is there first of all, “no, no why that? Shut up”. Even in front of other men you’ll say, “no, shut up you cannot say that”, and the husband will be humiliated. Do you know who you are married to? He is a servant of God, respect him. It’s a grace because most women want a servant of God but they never find him, many say, I want to marry someone like you but I didn’t have the opportunity. There are also those who regret to marry pagans. So let’s imitate who Mary was, Mary went with Joseph and she was about to give birth, Joseph looked everywhere and there was no room anywhere, he said to Mary there is only room here for the cows maybe we could stay there and spend the night. Mary humiliated herself, she didn’t say, “don’t you know that I am carrying God in my stomach, I cannot go where the cows are”.

The servants of God’s wives today say, “what, me going over there, no I can’t go over there, it’s really dirty over there, I don’t want to go there, that’s not my standard and I cannot go there”. Wives of servants of God must know their place and where they stand. You are here to fulfil a mission in your husband’s life and you must understand what you are going to do and if you are not careful you risk to be like Lot’s wife and you will stay behind somewhere on your way.

Let’s take another example from the Bible; in the old testament there was Potiphar’s family. Potiphar bought Joseph and Joseph was a servant in his house. Potiphar gave Joseph all the rights in his house except to touch his wife. However, Potiphar’s wife wanted Joseph more than her own husband which led to a problem between Joseph and Potiphar. Because Joseph didn’t have any power in Potiphar’s house and was just a servant, the wife wanted to create division between the two men. So women where is your place? You must serve your husband, you must give all your time to your husband.

When your husband comes home go and open the door for him, don’t send your child to open the door. When he enters, welcome him properly and ask him how he is. But many wives say, “oh you’re just disturbing me now, I’m talking”. This is terrible, the wives of servants of God must know their responsibilities, not to mislead men of God and they must try to put everything at its place.

SUMMARY

- Salvation is personal so carry on even when others stop
- The wife of a servant of God must not influence others is a wrong way
- The wife of a servant of God must serve her husband

The Wife of a Servant of God (Part II)

The Bible says that when the angel pulled Lot into the house all the others were blinded. Now the wrath of God had to come. The angel of the Lord said, “go and leave this place, it is now time to leave this city.” The Bible tells us that Lot wasn’t very happy to leave Sodom, God wanted to save Lot but Lot hesitated, he wasn’t sure. How much do we also hesitate to leave sin? How many times does God ask us to leave our sin, and we think that if we leave this sin we will lose something. So the angel of the Lord pushed Lot and said go and see your family and tell them to get ready.

The Bible says that Lot went to see his son in law and he told him that God will destroy this city so we have to leave now, but he didn’t listen. Lot forgot about his neighbours who were around. Lot forgot the church of God in this city. Lot forgot all the people who were sinners in this city, Lot forgot even to ask for forgiveness for the others as Abraham did.

This is exactly what we Christians do today. “Ah! I’ve received this, this is mine and whether you receive something or not it is just your own business”. We are even selfish with God’s Word, to preach we think, “hmm, I am going to preach on Sunday, what am I going to say because I will be paid for that, oh actually I should have gone somewhere and worked so that I can have money but now I have to preach”.

The Bible says that we have received freely and we must give freely but some people want to lock themselves up with the Word of God and they can not see that others are in danger and they can not see that God will soon destroys things that are around and they can not see that everybody will be judged tomorrow. They think “because I know God’s Word I will just share it with my children and my wife only or maybe my son in law but not with people I don’t know”. God is very much against this, God wants every soul to hear the good news and any soul that will accept this good news will be saved. So why don’t we give the word of God to others?

Some people sing today and from time to time I ask for CD’s or tapes because I can not buy them. Those people who have been given a gift to sing, instead of giving this gift freely they change this gift and use it for business; you have received freely give freely. To go to a concert you must pay and if a pastor is preaching there you must pay to get in, where are we going? Lot was in this situation, however God didn’t look at that, He forced Lot to leave and He said to Lot you must leave this city. God showed Lot where to go but Lot said, “no God I’m not going there it is too far, I’d like to go to this village because it’s closer” (Gen 19). That is how God’s servants are proud and they even resist God Himself. God says something and the servant of God says no I want that. Who are you to resist the Lord, who are you to oppose God’s order, are you God’s master or are you His servant? Men must know his place.

Now the angel of the Lord said now it is time to go. The Bible says that Lot took his two daughters and his wife with him. He was told they cannot look behind. The wife started to have curiosity in her heart. Curiosity said, “you are looking ahead of you but there is something behind, just turn around and have a look”. Because curiosity was very alive in her life, the Bible tells us that she turned around and she remained there. We can find that most wives of servants of God have this problem, they are very curious. Just look around, they might be the pastor’s wife, an evangelist’s wife, or another servant of God’s wife but they are very curious. This is their first battle and most of them are weak on that point. “Oh! Who is going there, is it Guillaume?” The wife will confirm that yes it is Guillaume and she will forget that she is with her sheep and she will stand up and have a look around. After confirming that yes it is Guillaume she will say, “what is he doing?”, and after that she will think “why is he doing that?” So you will see step by step because of curiosity the wife will be distracted and she will lose what she has. So, servants of God’s wives, avoid curiosity.

SUMMARY

- The wife of a servant of God must leave sin behind
- The wife of a servant of God must share what they have with others (esp. Word of God)
- The wife of a servant of God must use their gifts freely and not expect to be paid
- The wife of a servant of God must avoid curiosity

We can all apply these principals even if we are not wives.

THE WIFE OF A SERVANT OF GOD

God’s word says that men will not live by bread alone but he will by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Most parents are worried about what their children eat and spend all their time going to work so that their children can have some bread because they want to be responsible for their children’s lives. God also, is responsible of the lives of His children (us). He also does everything He can so that we can eat bread, He works hard so that we won’t lose weight by being hungry, He works hard so that we will not be malnourished. God gives us food with protein and vitamins so that we will have perfect health in Christ. However, the one who doesn’t have this perfect health; it is now the time to go to a specialist so that he can tell you what kind of food to eat so that you can be spiritually healthy.

Luke 17:28-30, before Lot went to Sodom and Gomorrah he was somewhere else with his wife and Abraham. There was a problem that came up and instead of sorting this problem out with Abraham, he decided to do something which might have been against Abraham’s will and against the will of God. The problem that was there was not Abraham or Lot’s problem; it was a problem between Abraham and Lot’s servants.

Lot had his shepherds likewise with Abraham. Instead of Lot sorting the problem out with his servants, he went to see his wife for advice and she said something like, “I can see that something is wrong with Abraham because we depend on him and he always puts us down, I think that now it is the time to leave Abraham and let him go to the right”(this is what the theologians say happened). From there Lot was influenced and decided to leave Abraham. We can see how much Lot’s wife has played a bad role in Lot’s life. Lot forgot all what Abraham had done for them and was now saying that they wanted to get rid of him. Maybe we could understand better if Abraham had beaten up one of Lot’s children, but because of animals men want to leave each other. What kind of men are servants of God? If the theologians are right and this story is true then Lot’s wife advised Lot badly.


As for you, if you are the wife of a servant of God or you will be the wife of a servant of God tomorrow, then think about it and know what is going to happen, you must know exactly what to tell your husband. Think about where you are and think also about the will of God, think, if I advise this to my husband will it please God or not and if not then just leave it.

So Lot left Abraham and went, we all know the story, Lot went and settled in Sodom which was just beside Gomorrah, it was a cursed city, a city that God didn’t like, a city that was dishonourable before God and God never liked this city. Ezek 16:48-50, we can see clearly that God didn’t like this city, pride was there.

We can see that this city reflects many women today who are the wife of a servant of God. For example, a wife of an evangelist or the wife of a pastor is proud. They don’t think of the poor and needy, they are selfish in everything and sometimes think of themselves as higher than others. In this case, God will not be with this wife. It is the same as Sodom, the Bible says that Sodom had beautiful grass, it attracted Lot to go there but in this city there was something that God didn’t like at all. A pastor can be there, an evangelist can be there and everybody will see that everything is beautiful, there are nice flowers etc, but in his own house there are serious problems that God hates.

God said, “Now I will go and touch this city”, and before going there he went through Abraham and among the three angels that came to Abraham God was there among them also, so Abraham talked with God. When two of those angels went to Sodom (one of them didn’t go) God’s servant Lot knew that they were very important for him and he ran to them. The Bible says that he bowed down and other versions say that he worshipped. Lot insisted that they must stay at his place until the morning and wash their feet.

Lot’s wife didn’t say anything, although Lot had great joy to receive those guests his wife did not, she didn’t say anything. It was to the extent that Lot said, “I am going to make you something to eat” (Gen 19). So Lot said, “I’m going to fix up something for you and you will spend the night here and in the morning you can carry on your way”, so those angels said, “yes we will stay for the night”. Because Lot insisted a lot, they stayed.

So what happened after that, the Bible tells us that something came that night, a group of young and old people went to Lot’s place, they knocked at the door and asked Lot, “where are the people who came here to be with you, we want to know them”. This was something very bad. Lot knew where he was living, he knew that this city was in disorder but he didn’t show the people in this city who is the true God, he didn’t witness and bring life to people around him.

The Bible says that Lot left the house and opened the door and he said to those people, “please be quiet because I am going to explain something to you, instead of giving you those two men I am going to give you my two daughters who are still virgins, you can play with them”. Lot had shut the door behind so that the angels couldn’t hear him talking to the people. Most Christians today do things that are Christian when they are in the assembly of God but when they are away from other Christians or the church, they just close the door behind them and do what the world does. They make as if they are not Christian and start talking like worldly people, they sacrifice the lives of those who are like virgins for Christ and when they do that they hide. But nobody can hide from God so the angel opened the door, he didn’t say anything he just pulled Lot with his hand. It means that nothing on this earth can be hidden, whether you do it during the night or during the day, whether you are in the air or inside the earth, God is always there and His eye will see you.

What happened to all those people in Sodom? Jude v7, Romans 1:26,27, this is something really disgusting, because we can see that what happened in the time of Sodom is what is happening right now. This is just a prophecy that is being fulfilled because Jesus said that what happened in the time of Sodom, you will see it happen again when the Son of man will be here. Today we can see that in every country those things are happening, homosexuality is high, men and women know each other and even in this country where we live, the law protects this practice. If you want to do anything about this, the law will be against you. As a church it is time to open our eyes and see where we are going, we can criticise and say that Sodom was really bad, but where are we? We can also say that Lot was bad by shutting his door and arranging things but where are we? Actually here in NZ there are pastors who are homosexual, in the States servants of God’s wives are lesbians also in Africa, everywhere this exists. They are with us in Church and they preach but when they are outside the church that is the way that they are. When they go and meet with people in the world they speak calmly and they say let’s do something and let’s do that. We can see that the church encourages those things, as Lot encouraged the people that were there and he said in exchange I will give you my two daughters. Today God’s servants do the same thing, they gather men and women and do things like in the world.

SUMMARY

- As a wife of a servant of God we must be humble
- As a wife of a servant of God we must advise the husband wisely
- We must obey the Word of God wherever we are
- We have to remember nothing is hidden from God
